A WEEK OF TOLERANCE IN SUMY NAU

The week of the International Tolerance Day was held on November 15-19 at Sumy National Agrarian University. It was introduced in 1996 by a decision of the UN General Assembly. It was on this day that UNESCO adopted the “Declaration of Tolerance Principles”.

The festival is designed to honor the equality of all people, regardless of origin, skin color, ethnicity, nationality, religious preferences, gender identity or worldview. In November 2015, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted an “anti-discrimination” amendment to the Labor Code, which further enshrined in law non-discrimination in the workplace on all these grounds, reaffirming the democracy and tolerance of Ukrainian society.

It is important to remember that tolerance is a liberality to a different worldview, way of life, behavior, culture and customs. The ability to be tolerant and understanding of the differences is an integral part of modern life and a condition for the organic coexistence of different people in one society.

The week started with an online training lecture “Tolerance in the student’s life”, where participants shared their knowledge about tolerance, tried themselves in various interactive games and thematic exercises and learned something new.

On November 16, a training for foreign and Ukrainian students “Tolerance as an indicator of education” was held. Interesting exercises, interactive games united absolutely everyone, despite the language barriers. Students understood the concept of tolerance. Participants actively asked questions, were interested in culture and religion.

On November 17, on social networks Facebook and Instagram an intellectual quiz was presented.  Students and the staff of the university took a very active part in it.

On November 18, videos were watched as a part of the psychological film club “Cinema SNAU”, where both Ukrainian and foreign students gladly joined through the online platform. While watching the videos, students had the opportunity to discuss problems and emphasize new knowledge on this topic.

The celebration of the Tolerance International Day finished on November 19, with the students, teachers and staff in participation the charity event “DO_BRO IS UNITED”.
