The Foreign Languages Department of Sumy National Agrarian University invites students to participate in the English Speaking Club to improve their English for participation in international academic mobility programs and to overcome the language barrier.

The purpose of the club is to provide constant practice of communication in English to improve communication skills. Each lesson will be devoted to a specific topic. Classes will be held by teachers of the foreign languages department and speakers from Great Britain and America. This is a unique opportunity to communicate with native speakers.

Format: online meetings

The first meeting of the club will be held on March 3, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. online

The guest of the first session is Marcus Ferrar, writer, communications consultant and trustee of voluntary associations in Oxford, Great Britain. M. Ferrar has authored speeches at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, lectured at the ZürcherHochschule, the IEDC School of Management (Slovenia), the University of Regina (Saskatchewan,) and the Centre for Security Studies in Geneva. He consulted media companies in Romania and Bulgaria and taught journalism in Ukraine.

Topic of the first lesson: History. We will consider the following questions:

• Why is it important to know history?

• Who makes the history?

• How does it help to understand own society, identity and other cultures?

• Comment on the quote: History allows us to learn from the past.
