The Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Sumy Regional State Administration, the Sumy Research Station of Horticulture of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine, the Laboratory of Horticulture and Viticulture together with Sumy National Agrarian University organized a scientific and practical seminar “Modern aspects of growing fruit and berry crops in the Sumy region”, which took place on March 2, 2023 at the” Green Centre” of SNAU.
The seminar consisted of two parts: professional and practical.
The Vice-Rector for Academic Activities of SNAU Yurii Danko started the meeting
Oleksandr Maslak from the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Sumy Regional State Administration reported on the state and prospects for the development of production and sale of fruit and berry products in the Sumy region.
Serhii Chukhil, PhD of the Sumy Research Station of Horticulture of the Institute of Horticulture of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, shared his knowledge about the peculiarities of growing the fruits of grain crops in today’s conditions.
Serhii Serhiienko, a researcher of the Sumy Research Station of Horticulture of the Institute of Horticulture of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, highlighted the topic “Berry growing, modern challenges to technology and development prospects.”
Victor Demenko, associate professor of the plant protection department of SNAU, reported on the measures to protect the orchard from pests.
The topic of Andrii Marakhovskii, head of the public union “Organic Ukraine. North”, was entitled “Grant support of business entities, provision of agricultural advisory services”.
The next issue that was raised at the seminar was the successful experience of INBERRY LLC in growing organic berries in the Sumy region (Speaker Inna Kolosok).
Representatives of the Employment Policy Implementation Department of the Sumy Regional Employment Centre Oksana SIDOROVA, and representatives of JSC “Oshchadbank” YuliiaDolia and Olha Herasymenko spoke about micro-grants and state financial support for business in the field of horticulture and greenhouse management.
The practical part of the event took place in the garden of SNAU, where Serhii Chukhil, Serhii Serhiienko and Serhii Horbas raised the issue of pruning fruit trees and features of creating perspective forms of apple tree crowns.
