SUMY NATIONAL AGRARIAN UNIVERSITY HAS REGISTERED THE FIRST DOMESTIC VARIETY OF QUINOA!

A group of scientists led by the head of the Plant Growing Department of SNAU Volodymyr Trotsenko were able to “tame” this plant, which is not typical for Ukraine, and register the Quartet variety adapted to our climatic conditions. Quinoa is one of the most popular superfoods in the world. Back in the 1990s, scientists at NASA identified it as an ideal cereal for astronauts, because this product fully meets the needs of the human body in nutrients. Nowadays interest in quinoa has grown again.

This plant has another name – Inca gold. They believed that quinoa helped soldiers become more resilient.

This pseudo-cereal is considered an organic whole grain product, as any genetic experiments are prohibited on it, including increasing yields and pest control. So Volodymyr Trotsenko says that adapting it to the local climate was difficult, but very interesting.

We hope that in the nearest future this cereal of SNAU selection will take a prominent place in crop rotation in the fields of local farmers, and quinoa porridge – in the diets of our defenders.
