THE GREAT MAN, THE GREAT LEADER – THE FIRST RECTOR OF SNAU CELEBRATES HIS 85TH BIRTHDAY!

Let’s build our university with our own hands! This slogan is associated with a man-legend of Sumy National Agrarian University – the first rector Ivan Briukhovetskyi. Today, April 21, he celebrates his 85th birthday.

Today, everyone who knows Ivan Briukhovetskyi is convinced: SNAU has become an independent institution of higher education thanks to him!

Here are the memories of a student of Ivan Briukhovetskyi and now a vice-rector for academic activity Valerii Zhmailov:

“The most difficult time was when the university was just being established. There was a document about the establishment of a branch of the Kharkiv Agricultural Institute named after Dokuchaev, but there was no educational building. We were given the premises of the school where the Banking Academy is located now. We repaired this building, studied there. There were no staff. So he invited people from different schools, those who knew him, trusted him. They came to Sumy. In 1990, the question was raised that it was necessary to change the status of the educational institution from a branch to an independent establishment. It was difficult to solve this issue. Therefore, Ivan Briukhovetskyi appealed to the Ministry of Agriculture of the USSR, and an order was issued that the institute becomes independent. In 1997 we received the status of a university. This has greatly simplified the solution of personnel, material and financial issues”
