The New Year holidays are a time of real magic. Especially for children who so sincerely believe in miracles. Students of Sumy National Agrarian University under the guidance of the Department for Educational Work with Students of SNAU decided to give kids unforgettable emotions. For a few hours, the young people turned into magical characters: Snowflakes, Winter, Squirrel, St Nicholas. A winter fairy tale took place within our walls…

So, what happened on the eve of St Nicholas? The kids are waiting for the arrival of a magical grandfather who always brings gifts to the polite and obedient. The forest animals are also looking forward to seeing St Nicholas. Suddenly Magpie brings terrible news: The dragon has stolen the wizard. What to do? How to bring the children back to the holiday? How to find St Nicholas? The animals are in despair. It seemed that the New Year’s miracle could be forgotten. But every fairy tale must have a happy ending. Our story ended with the appearance of a magic apple that made the dragon kinder. St Nicholas still came to the party and gave the children a New Year’s miracle.

Together with the children, the magical characters danced, sang, round danced and played active games. The smile on the kids’ faces did not disappear for a minute.

The performance was staged and organized by choreographers, leaders of creative clubs of Sumy NAU Olha Hetmanenko, Anastasia Honchar and student rector Diana Derevianchenko.

In total, the student activists of Sumy National Agrarian University held 5 festive concerts this year, which took place at our university and at the Centre for Social Rehabilitation of Children with Disabilities. The fairy tale was organized for children with disabilities, children of our educational institution’s employees and the military of the 27th reactive artillery brigade named after the Kosh Ataman Petro Kalnyshevskyi, as well as for schoolchildren from the border areas. In total, more than 200 young spectators watched the performance.

With the assistance of the trade union of students and postgraduates of NAU and the trade union of NAU employees, St Nicholas also gave the children sweets.

Student rector of Sumy National University and Winter in the fairy tale Diana Derevianchenko describes the emotions of participating in and organizing the initiative:

“We are happy to give a holiday to children, because in such difficult times it is nice to see the bright eyes of children who want to have fun, communicate, and believe in miracles and fairy tales. Every year this volunteer initiative brings us happiness.”

We remind, it is an annual tradition of the Sumy NAU student activists to hold performances for children on the occasion of the New Year holidays. For example, last year more than 100 children watched the fairy tale about St Nicholas. More information is by link https://snau.edu.ua/novorichna-kazka-v-snau/.
