December 6 is traditionally celebrated in Ukraine as the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This day is special for all Ukrainians and embodies the indomitability and courage of our defenders.
The Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine coincides with an important date in the history of our people’s struggle for their freedom and independence – it was on December 6, 1919 that the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic set off on its legendary First Winter Campaign. During the five-month raid, it covered about 2,500 kilometers behind enemy lines and fought more than 50 successful battles. The modern Ukrainian army continues the traditions of its predecessors and honors their victories. The 28th separate mechanized brigade, glorified in battles with the Russian occupiers, bears the honorary title of Knights of the Winter Campaign.
Mykola MYKHAILICHENKO, associate professor of the Department of State and Legal Disciplines and Ukrainian Studies, dedicated his educational event to the soldiers of the UNR army. For more than 10 years, he has been collecting artifacts from the times of the First Liberation Wars in order to form a holistic idea of their participants in the youth. His collection includes copies of uniforms, original awards and items of equipment of the soldiers of the UNR army, personal belongings that they used in everyday life. Based on this collection, the exhibition “For Ukraine, for its will” was created in the SNAU History Museum, the highlight of which is the opportunity to touch history not only figuratively, but also literally – to try on an overcoat and a cap, to pick up a soldier’s cauldron or flask. Mykola Anatoliiovych, based on his own experience of military-historical reconstruction, spoke about the uniforms, equipment and weapons of Ukrainian soldiers of the past, and the peculiarities of their everyday life. He paid special attention to the imitation of the military traditions of the UNR Army by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The student body and invited guests from among the schoolchildren received the presentation of the exhibition with great interest. Therefore, we can confidently state that thanks to such events, the glorious history of the Ukrainian army becomes closer to our youth.
Our courageous defenders! You are true fighters for sovereignty and independence. We congratulate you on your professional holiday!
We wish you health and unwavering faith in the victory of our state. May each of our soldiers return home as soon as possible!
Thank you for the exploits and saved lives of Ukrainians.
