MUSEUM OF SNAU

The museum of History of Sumy National Agrarian University was opened on the 15-th of May 2007. It was dedicated to the 30-th anniversary of Sumy National Agrarian University.

From the very beginning of its foundation and till December 2014 the head of the museum was Vasylenko Halyna Petrivna. Since 2015 Tsyhanok Mykola Hryhorovych has been the head of the museum.
The historical documents, that trace the development of the institution of Sumy branch of Kharkiv Agricultural Institute to Sumy National Agrarian University (Decrees of the President of Ukraine, resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Acts of the Ministry of Agriculture of the USSR) are represented at the exhibitions.
Everyone can see the beginning of constructive works of the academic buildings, hostels, sports complex and a stadium; turning over the album pages of graduate-students of different yearsyou can see photos of young teachers.
All materials in the Museum are located according to the topics, namely: “Our university – by our own efforts”, “Knowledge is power”, “Future belongs to science,” “It’s for You, Motherland,” ” A healthy mind in a healthy body,” “We are 30 years old”, “Our talents are for people” and others.
Here you can see paintings and gifts presented by graduates of different years, embroidery, done by our staff, monographs of our scientists, inventors’ certificates and diplomas for achievements in agriculture.
There are souvenirs and gifts from agricultural universities and institutions, congratulatory letters, telegrams and diplomas on the 30th anniversary of Sumy National Agrarian University from different countries such as: Poland, Georgia, Germany, China, Indonesia; thematic albums: “Our guests”, “Our travels”, “Our past “, “On the 30-th anniversary of Sumy National Agrarian University’’. Here you can find newspapers, printed university brochures of different years, materials dedicated to Jubilee dates of the University.
There are some exhibits devoted to soldiers-internationalists, who were the students of Sumy National Agrarian University, and a shelf that displays events of summer 2004 when students, teachers and residents of Sumy stopped joining of three universities. In the history this protest is known as the “tent revolution”, “Students Revolution”, “Revolution on the grass”. Many researchers call this event as a prologue to the historic Orange Revolution.
Is the museum there are exhibits, which were presented by Father Superio of St. Valentina Church (icon, vases, pictures) – the only church in Ukraine, that was built on campus in less than 3 months.
There is one more museum rare object, namely “Rural Agricultural Encyclopedia” of 1927, presented by the Director of the Museum of education.
In the museum you can see the illustrations of paintings of Sumy Art Museum, the Museum of the richest princes Chartoryzhskyh (Poland), great painters such as Karl Briullov, Leonardo da Vinci, P. Veronese and others.
The Museum is a place where graduates meet and where students have curatorial classes, excursions for the guests of the University and other events written down to the “Book of Comments and Suggestions”.
In the corner of the Ethnographic Museum, located at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, there are agricultural tools and household items of 16-19 centuries (a plow, a device for cutting straw, wooden, semi-metal and metal wheels, spit rake, clamp, a yoke for oxen, a spade for beet digging from the estates of Kharytonenko, mortar, a spinning wheel, oven fork, rolling pin and others).
All the exhibits are collected and donated to the museum by Hryhorii Makarovych Oliinyk, associate professor of Sumy National Agrarian University, a man who worked at the Faculty of Engineering Technology (former – Faculty of Mechanization) from the beginning of its foundation.
Forty years of history is not a very long period of time, but the founders of the university – the former first secretary of Sumy Regional Committee of the Communist Party Ivan Hryhorovych Hrintsov and the first rector of Sumy National Agrarian University Ivan Nikolaevich Briukhovetskii, it is a very important event.
Thanks to the great attention to our history of Vladimir Ivanovich Ladyka, the rector of Sumy National Agrarian University, a graduate of our university of 1984, the expositions of the museum reflect the unity of interests of teachers and students in a very rapid development of material base, the analogy has no agricultural universities of the former Soviet Union. It took 25 years to get the status of national university.
Historical milestones of establishment of university are represented in the museum in the form of a family tree. History of Sumy National Agrarian University is shown in parallel with the development of Sumy. On the exhibits you can see Sumy before the revolution, the center of the town before 70’s of the last century, the reconstruction of the central streets, presentation of Soborna street after reconstruction and different views of the city today.
Different services and departments of the university made a significant research work to collect documents and exhibits, presents and souvenirs for the museum.
