The Student Self-Government Body of Sumy National Agrarian University is a voluntary association of faculty-level student self-governance bodies, clubs, and interest-based centers at SNAU. It serves as an advisory and consultative body under the university’s rectorate, aiming to represent students’ opinions, defend their rights, and ensure their participation in university governance. Each faculty has its own student self-government body, whose head is automatically a member of the Student Self-Government Body of Sumy National Agrarian University. The organization is independent of political, religious, and other public associations or organizations.
The Student Self-Government Body consists of the Student Rectorate and faculty representatives. The Student Rectorate includes an elected Chairperson (Student Rector), First Student Vice-Rector, and Student Vice-Rectors responsible for various areas: scientific work, sports, volunteer and charity activities, career and information affairs, external relations, social and living conditions, and cultural and educational initiatives. Additionally, the Secretary, appointed by the Chairperson, is part of the structure. Each member organizes cultural, artistic, charitable, and sports events, implements numerous ideas and projects, and establishes partnerships with various organizations.
Key Tasks and Functions of Student Self-Government:
- Protection of students’ rights and interests within the university.
- Monitoring compliance with the University’s Internal Regulations and Statute, and responding promptly to violations.
- Assisting in academic and educational activities at the university.
- Supporting students’ scientific and creative endeavors.
- Promoting moral and ethical values, as well as fostering patriotism.
- Advocating for a healthy lifestyle, safety awareness, and preventing student misconduct.
- Improving living and recreational conditions for students.
- Encouraging the establishment and coordination of student clubs, societies, and interest groups.
- Collaborating with student self-governance bodies from other universities and youth organizations.
- Supporting graduate employment and providing opportunities for students to engage in part-time work.
- Facilitating international student exchange programs.
- Encouraging student participation in international, national, regional, and university-level competitions, conferences, and olympiads.
- Engaging students in the implementation of state youth policy initiatives.
- Providing students with informational, legal, psychological, financial, and other support in collaboration with relevant university services.
- Representing students in collegial, advisory, and working bodies, including scholarship committees.
- Cooperating with academic advisors, dormitory supervisors, department heads, and other university units.
