Preface. The department for the organization of educational work with SNAU students, headed by Svitlana Zinchenko, holds charity events on the eve of St. Mykolas’ Day every year. The 2022 was no exception. Activists of SNAU and separate structural units started the campaign “Every one of us is Saint Mykola” to help sick children and children deprived of parental care.
Chapter 1. On the first evening after the opening of the meeting, no miracle happened. The account was empty. Iryna Shvets, the Head of one of the groups of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, says: “I asked my colleagues to drop what they could. 5, 6, 10 hryvnias… Every penny was needed. So we collected about 300 hryvnias overnight”.
Chapter 2. Subsequently, the information about the collection of funds for the purchase of gifts for special children spread almost throughout the region. The initiative was joined by separate subdivisions of the SNAU Vocational Colleges, general secondary education institution of the I-III degrees No. 2 of the Trostianets City Council, residents of Sumy region, and businessmen. Together we collected 31,752 hryvnias. These funds were used to buy clothes, interactive games, sweets, stationery, dried fruits and nuts. Many caring citizens brought their belongings and toys for children to the Department for Organizing Educational Work with Students of Sumy NAU. One day, a man gave three boxes of tangerines and several juice packs.
Section 3. A delegation of activists of Sumy NAU and separate structural units went on a business trip to the Regional Centre for Children’s Oncology and Haematology, the Khoruzhivskii Children’s Home and the Ulianivska Secondary School Boarding School. In addition to gifts, volunteers prepared an entertainment program and talked with the children. Together, we managed to give a holiday to 74 children. The joy in their eyes, sincere smiles were worth joint efforts and every hryvnia collected.
No words can describe the pride felt by everyone involved in the action. In addition to the fact that we organized a holiday for special children, we also showed how harmoniously we can work in a team, how we support each other. They are convinced that as long as Ukrainians are united, nothing and no one will break them. The victory will certainly belong to the people who are able to give the last for the one who needs it more.
We sincerely thank everyone involved in the campaign. Thank you for each of your contributions, for each item brought for the children, for each hryvnia. We are incredibly proud of our fellow citizens, their solidarity and thirst for mutual assistance.
