February was a month of sporting victories for students of Sumy National Agrarian University. The efforts of the young people and their incredible work for the desired result were highly appreciated at the national, regional and city levels. Moreover, SNAU has become the centre of sports life in Sumy and a base for competitions.
All-Ukrainian competitions
On 17-18 February 2024, the Open Winter Weightlifting Cup was held in the city of Irpin. The competition brought together 7 teams from different cities of Ukraine, including six Sumy athletes from the Children and Youth Sports School “Ukraine” named after Oleksandr KULYK. In addition, the day before, on 16 February, in the city of Bucha, the guy competed in the open weightlifting championship, according to the results of which he became a silver medallist.
Regional competitions
On 3 February, Bohdan KORNIIENKO, a student of the Faculty of Agrotechnologies and Natural Resource Management, took 2nd place in his age group at the Sumy Regional Biathlon Championship.
Students of SNAU also distinguished themselves during the regional arm-wrestling competitions held on 4 February in Romny. In total, there were 79 participants from different parts of Sumy region. In the youth age group (born in 2001 and younger), Bohdan KRYKOTA, a student of the Faculty of Economics and Management, became the champion in the right-handed arm-wrestling among men in the +80 kg category. Also, in the “adults” group among men in the +90 kg category, Bohdan KRYKOTA took 3rd place. Stanislav SIDASH, a student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Transport, became a bronze medallist in the youth age group (born in 2001 and younger) in the men’s left-handed wrestling in the +80 kg category.
On 8-10 February 2024, Sumy hosted the regional grappling championship among senior boys, juniors and adults. Andrii BOIAR, a student of the Faculty of Law, won in the no-gi section in the weight category up to 84 kg.
Competitions at SNAU
SNAU can boast of more than just champions! Our educational institution regularly becomes the centre of the city’s sports life.
For example, on 22 February 2024, the second stage of the futsal and cheerleading competitions within the framework of the project “Side by Side All-Ukrainian School Leagues” of the 2023-2024 season among the schools of the Sad territorial community took place at SNAU sports complex.
On 21 February 2024, the Department of Physical Education of SNAU hosted a doubles badminton competition among students. Andrii KOLODNENKO and Anastasiia STEPANENKO, students of the Law Faculty, became absolute champions. Students of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Roman HOLIKOV and Khrystyna VOLKOVA took silver. Maxim HULIN and Aleksandra CHYHRYN from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine took 3rd place.
