Professor of the Department of International Relations of Sumy National Agrarian University, Doctor of Law Alona Mykolaivna Klochko, became a vivid example of active participation in international events, representing Ukraine at a high level. On April 2, 2024, she had the extraordinary opportunity to act as an authorized person of the International Commission of Jurists during the 55th session of the Human Rights Council at the United Nations.

During her speech, she emphasized the importance of ensuring the independence of the judicial system and the right to a fair trial in cases related to the armed conflict. Professor Klochko also emphasized the need for effective accountability for crimes committed during armed conflicts, in accordance with international human rights law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to the speech of the Sumy scientist and noted the importance of presenting the periodic report of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, which testifies to gross violations of international law and human rights in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The report noted an increase in missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, resulting in the destruction of critical infrastructure and large numbers of civilian casualties. The report also documents crimes committed by the Russian occupation authorities, which continue to implement Russian legal, administrative and educational systems in the occupied territories of Ukraine. In addition, the imposition of Russian citizenship on Ukrainian children was recorded, in violation of international humanitarian law.

The international community, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, calls for categorical condemnation of the crimes committed by the Russian occupation authorities and demands justice for all victims. Professor Klochko and other Ukrainian representatives are actively working to increase attention to this problem at the international level and attract international support for Ukraine.

Such participation in international events emphasizes the importance of quality training and active participation in international forums for SNAU representatives. Professor Klochko became not only an excellent example of a teacher, but also the pride of our university in the international arena.
