5 higher education institutions of Ukraine, including Sumy National Agrarian University, have received support from foreign partners to create an Energy Innovation Hub. On April 25, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The document is a trilateral agreement between the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Sumy National Agrarian University, and the NGO «School of Energy Efficiency». The memorandum is aimed at implementing joint program activities in Ukraine in the field of energy efficiency training, introducing training courses and materials for obtaining competencies in the field of energy efficiency, and building the capacity of Energy Innovation Hubs. The event is part of the international technical assistance project “Promoting Energy Efficiency and Implementing the EU Energy Efficiency Directive in Ukraine” funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Confederation (SECO).
Sumy National Agrarian University became an implementing partner of this project by winning a grant to create an Energy Innovation Hub. After signing the Memorandum, Acting Rector of SNAU Volodymyr LADYKA noted that this project is a good foundation for energy efficiency research and thanked the signatories for the opportunity to join. For the educational institution, this step is important and relevant, as the university has been using alternative energy sources and modern technologies for heating its premises for 8 years.
In addition to the university administration, the event was attended by members of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Transportation, who contributed to the grant and will be directly involved in its implementation. Among them were the initiators of the grant application, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Construction and Operation of Buildings, Roads and Transport Facilities of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Transportation of Sumy National Agrarian University Oleksandr NOVYTSKYI and Senior Lecturer of the Department of Energy and Electrical Systems Oleksandr SAVOISKYI. The Head of the Department of Architecture and Engineering Research Dmytro BORODAI and Associate Professor of the Department of Construction and Operation of Buildings, Roads and Transport Facilities of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Transportation of Sumy National Agrarian University Vitalii SIROBABA will also assist in fulfilling the terms of the Memorandum.
Oleksandr SOLAROV, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Transportation, says that the Energy Innovation Hub is not only a project to gain knowledge in the field of energy efficiency, but also a unique opportunity to improve the quality of educational services in the specialties 191 “Architecture and Urban Planning”, 192 “Civil Engineering and Civil Engineering” and 141 “Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics”.
