Teachers of the Faculty of Biology and Technology of Sumy National Agrarian University were lecturers at the field scientific and practical seminar “Dairy farming”.
The event was held on May 24 at the Vitaliia farm in Sumy region. The company specializes in breeding dairy cattle, as well as growing vegetables, root crops and melons.
The seminar was attended by managers and specialists of dairy farms, scientists, input suppliers, representatives of executive authorities and local governments.
Bohdan DUMENKO, head of livestock production at Vitaliia Farm, opened the event with a welcoming speech. The representative of the farm emphasized the importance of holding such events and expressed his gratitude for the fact that Vitaliia was chosen as the venue for the seminar this time.
Oleksandr MASLAK, Director of the Department of Agricultural Development of Sumy Regional State Administration, reported on the state of the dairy farming industry in Sumy region, using existing quantitative indicators, and analysed the development trend of this sector of the economy.
The program of events also included a demonstration of young animals of different origins and genotypes (including F1) and a brief introduction to the technology of keeping and exploiting animals at Vitaliia’s farm.
Yuliia PAVLENKO, Head of the Department of Technology of Production and Processing of Animal Products and Cynology at Sumy National Agrarian University, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, shared her knowledge and scientific achievements on the topic: “Breeding of first-born cows of different parental origin”.
Daria HERMAN, chief livestock breeder at the Sumy Breeding Centre, spoke about the genetic resources of the Sumy Breeding Centre.
In addition, an open meeting of the Board of the Ukrainian Brown Cattle Breeders Association was held. It is worth reminding that the foundation of the association was initiated by Volodymyr LADYKA, Rector of Sumy NAU, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. The joint work of the Association’s members is intended to ensure a full-fledged dialogue with government authorities, in particular the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, on the development of the livestock industry, preservation of genetic potential and food security.
The scientific and practical seminar became a kind of effective dialogue between business, science and government and allowed participants to gain new knowledge and skills and share their experience.
