The staff of Sumy National Agrarian University sincerely congratulates Ukrainians on the Constitution Day!
We wish our people courage and patriotic consciousness, active citizenship. Let life be peaceful and happy, in compliance with every law prescribed in the Constitution.
Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence have become the most important achievement of the twentieth century. As a state, each country must have its own coat of arms, flag, anthem, and Constitution.
Work on the document first began in 1990, after the VERKHOVNA RADA of the USSR adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine. Many issues caused controversy, and each law was finalized.
On June 28, 1996, Ukraine adopted a legal act of the highest legal force. It took almost a day to work on it without a break. The new document approved the state symbols, the status of the Ukrainian language as the only state language, and recognized Crimea as an autonomous republic within Ukraine. The Constitution was enacted by 315 deputies, two-thirds of the total number of members.
At the same time, the international community recognized the Constitution of Ukraine and called it one of the most democratic in the world.
The Constitution of Ukraine consists of 15 chapters and 161 articles. The document guarantees equal rights and freedoms for citizens. According to the Constitution, Ukraine is a sovereign, independent, democratic, social and legal state.
