Since the beginning of 2024, a fruitful collaboration between scientists of the Sumy National Agrarian University /SNAU and the Mendel University in Brno began.
Mendel University actively follows the trends of agricultural education in the world, introduces new promising specialties and modernizes laboratories. It was founded in 1919. Since 2010, it has been named after Mendel.
• More than 11,000 students study at 5 faculties of the university.
• Mendel University is part of the center of excellence of the Central European Technical Institute.
• It has 70 specialized laboratories.
• Student mobility is regulated by agreements with the world’s leading agricultural universities.
For a long time, representatives of SNAU and Mendel University worked out ideas that could be implemented together. As a result, they received funding from the Czech government for the implementation of the project “The social and ecological significance of urban green spaces from the point of view of the water cycle changed by global climate change – cooperation in education and research between Mendel University in Brno and Sumy National Agrarian University”.
Among the qualitative indicators of cooperation, the following should be noted:
– internship of 18 students, seven specialties of Sumy National University of Applied Sciences related to environmental protection: “Ecology”, “Agronomy”, “Protection and quarantine of plants”, “Tourism”, “Biotechnology”, “Sustainable agriculture and food security”, “Geodesy and land management “. Also, six scientific and pedagogical workers of the Faculty of Agricultural Technologies and Nature Management completed an internship abroad (in the amount of 6 credits): professor, head of the department Victoria SKLYAR; associate professors – Roman YAROSCHUK, Inna ZUBTSOVA, Lyudmila BONDAREVA and Yuriy SKLYAR (department of ecology and botany) and associate professor Svitlana YAROSCHUK (department of agricultural technologies and soil science).
– research within the framework of project implementation is related to the study of water transpiration depending on the climatic conditions of the region.
During 2 weeks, SNAU representatives worked in the modern laboratories of the Mendel University, visited living laboratories located in the forest plantations of the university, got acquainted with the valuable tree and shrub introducers presented in the Křtiny arboretum. We visited a large number of locations of the botanical garden of the Mendel University, which covers an area of more than 10 hectares (a huge collection of tree and shrub varieties is collected here, which are grouped mainly by geographical origin).
The implementation of the project became possible with the support of the partners “Energy Efficiency Climate Sumy” and “Partnership Fund” BO (Brno, Czech Republic) Nadace Partnerství. We sincerely thank the project team for the work done: Petr MADERA, Roman YAROSCHUK, Svitlana YAROSCHUK, Marina DRANICHENKO, Lyutia RZHEGORZHIKOVA, Lenka ERENBERGEROVA.
Project participants thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to implement such initiatives.
