1000 days of resistance, 1000 days of war horrors, 1000 days of indomitable spirit.

19 November 2024 holds a special place in Ukrainian and world history – 1000 days since the beginning of the aggressor’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

On this occasion, Sumy National Agrarian University created an interactive installation – ‘War in the Lens: 1000 Days of Resistance’. In the lobby of the main building of the university, dozens of photographs of the terrible events of destruction that our native Sumy region has experienced over these 1000 days, which each of us has witnessed unwillingly. Each photo has its own story, its own painful memory that will remain in the cloud storage of our gadgets and will be imprinted in everyone’s heart.

The event was also attended by children of military personnel who are currently defending our country. One of the invited guests was Mykhailo STEPANENKO, who took up arms himself two years ago. He was on active duty and on 24 February 2022 was stationed in the Kharkiv region. On that day, he stood up to defend Ukraine together with his comrades.

After his demobilisation, Mykhailo entered Sumy National Agricultural University as a first-year student at the Faculty of Biology and Technology. Now he is learning a civilian profession and wants to help rebuild the country.

The event also showcased samples of uniforms and equipment worn by Ukrainian army soldiers of different times, starting with the First Liberation War. Their display is not accidental, because we must remember that the war with our eternal enemy did not begin in 2022, or even in 2014. More than a hundred years ago, in 1918, the defenders of the Ukrainian People’s Republic stood up against the Moscow invasion.

After the opening of the location, all those present were invited to join in and leave their ribbon, their mark on the canvas of unity and resistance.

In addition, the commemoration of the 1000 days of struggle of the Ukrainian people continued at a thematic literary event organised by the SNAU Scientific Library and the branch library No. 7 of the Sumy Library System. During the event, a thematic literary exposition dedicated to the long history of the Ukrainian state was demonstrated.

The current tragic events and the latest crimes of the russians demonstrate that living memory is extremely important.

1000 days of full-scale war – we survived and continued to live. Thanks to our joint efforts, thanks to our unity, we are strong. And we will always remember all those who fought and are fighting for our freedom!
