SNAU celebrated the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism

Published: May 9, 2025

On May 8, Sumy National Agrarian University hosted a thematic event “We Remember to Live in Peace” dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II.

Students honored the memory of millions of victims of the largest military conflict of the twentieth century. Ukraine, which became one of the main theaters of war, suffered enormous human and material losses, and the contribution of Ukrainians to the victory was decisive: more than 7 million fought in the ranks of the Allies, and hundreds of thousands participated in the resistance movement.

During the event, a thematic exhibition was presented and a meaningful historical conversation was held, moderated by Mykola MYKHAILICHENKO, PhD in History, Associate Professor of the Department of State Law and Ukrainian Studies. The participants made red poppies, an international symbol of remembrance of war victims, and took part in a master class during which they discussed historical facts, shared their thoughts and reflections on the tragic events of the past and present.

The event culminated with the solemn planting of the Alley of Memory and Honor on the university’s campus. It was created to honor the heroism of the Ukrainian people in World War II and to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism. The alley will become a living symbol of peace, national memory and respect for the dignity of human life.

Commemorative dates such as the Victory Day over Nazism are of particular importance because they shape historical consciousness and affirm the values of freedom and human dignity. They are a reminder of the price of peace that millions of heroes have won, and of our duty to preserve their memory, to be grateful and worthy of their sacrifice.
