Sumy National Agrarian University has a long-term Agreement on cooperation and organization of relations with the Mykhailivska Tsilyna. On the occasion of a scheduled meeting on June 3, 2025, the Rector Ihor Kovalenko and the Rector’s Advisor Volodymyr Ladyka visited the Tsilyna.
Mykhailivska Tsilyna is not just a steppe reserve – it is the green heart of the Sumy region, a refuge in which more than 1,150 species of animals and about 900 plants have found refuge. With a total area of almost 9 hectares, the reserve can offer two routes, two Scythian mounds, and even two green tourism estates for viewing.
SNAU has been closely cooperating with the Mykhailivska Tsilyna for several years. The institutions have a common goal: the development of the scientific and research, educational and methodological, organizational and information spheres, which will contribute to the introduction of the latest technologies and the holding of joint events.
Cooperation serves as the basis for developing methods for studying biodiversity and measures for preserving natural complexes. Scientific research conducted within the framework of the Agreement will not only provide solutions to existing problems, but also contribute to the development of both institutions.
As part of the last visit, the delegation of Sumy NAU and the leadership of Tsilyna discussed ways to renaturalize meadow-steppe natural complexes. For Sumy region, and Ukraine as a whole, this is an important condition for preserving ecosystems and contributing to improving the ecological situation of the region. Renaturalization is aimed at giving nature autonomy, because the measures that are organized during it are aimed at restoring flora and fauna and soils to a state when people did not yet interfere with the ecosystem.
We are proud of the opportunity to have good partnership relations with Mykhailivska Tsilyna, which, like Sumy National Agrarian University, strives for the preservation and development of nature. We believe that our experience of cooperation will be useful for other regions of Ukraine.
