On July 16, 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted Resolution No. 891, which provides for the allocation of UAH 300 million in additional funding for higher education institutions that continue to operate in regions with an increased level of security threats. Despite the difficult situation, Sumy National Agrarian University ensures the continuity of the educational process and maintains the stability of the educational environment in the region.
Funding is provided through the redistribution of educational subvention balances held on the accounts of local budgets as of the end of 2024. The funds are allocated in accordance with the current Formula for financing higher education institutions, taking into account their performance indicators, which guarantees objectivity, transparency and a balanced approach to decision-making. The implementation of this decision was made possible by the coordinated cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation, and the councils of rectors of Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv regions.
Sumy National Agrarian University sees this initiative as a timely response to the challenges faced by higher education institutions in border regions. The additional funding will allow the university to strengthen its infrastructure capacity, restore damaged property, stabilize the educational process, modernize its facilities, develop digital platforms and improve distance learning formats, etc.
As a reminder, Sumy National Agrarian University suffered significant losses as a result of a drone attack on July 14, 2025. The total amount of material damage is about UAH 4.6 million. One of the university’s buildings was damaged, and its staff and one student were injured. The university immediately organized the necessary assistance and received strong support from volunteer organizations that helped with material needs and humanitarian aid. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed. In these conditions, any support is extremely important – not only to restore the damaged property, but also to maintain a stable educational environment, which we continue to support every day.
Despite the challenges, SNAU works continuously. The team demonstrates professionalism, cohesion and commitment to academic values. The university remains an active participant in the educational and scientific life of Ukraine. The Admissions Committee works every day – the admission campaign is in an active phase, and we are ready to provide future applicants with all the necessary support.
Sumy National Agrarian University expresses its gratitude to the Government of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation, as well as all stakeholders and volunteers who have contributed to the creation of mechanisms to support higher education in the affected regions. The decision to provide additional funding is not only an investment in infrastructure, but also a testament to the trust in the educational capacity of the NAU and its contribution to the development of the region and the country as a whole.
The SNAU continues to fulfill its mission of shaping the future of Ukraine through quality education, professional training, research and commitment to academic values.
