On August 21, 2025, Sumy National Agrarian University celebrates the anniversary of the election of Ihor Kovalenko as Rector — Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, and simply a very wise and modern person. Over the past year, the renewed team has confidently demonstrated its ability to act and achieve great goals despite external challenges.
Thanks to the tireless work and motivation of the university community, the institution received new rating achievements during the year: It moved up 32 positions in the Top 200 Ukraine 2025 and took 40th place there, steadily moved up among the top 30 higher education institutions according to Webometrics in January, improved its position by 6 steps out of 35 educational leaders in the country according to SCOPUS, took 29th place in the SCImago Institutions Rankings due to active research and innovation in social projects, and was included in the QS World University Rankings for the first time: Sustainability 2025.
This year, Sumy NAU’s top priority was to strengthen security measures and arrange shelters so that employees and students could work, gain new knowledge, and spend their leisure time without worrying about the threat. In total, all the university’s shelters can shelter up to two thousand people in case of emergency and, importantly, have the appropriate quality certificates. The admission campaign and exams also took place there, because security is now of the utmost importance.
The period of work turned out to be productive – a number of European integration projects aimed at digitalizing agribusiness, environmental sustainability, and innovation were launched and continued with the assistance of Erasmus+ CBHE: HELIUM, INSPIRE, UNITWIN, UNICOM, Interadis, Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Chair “EU Climate Leadership”. They also had the opportunity to attend the EAIE 2024 forum in Toulouse, strengthen the work of Sumy International College HINT, develop the Double Degree Program with Germany, implement a Quality Assurance project with the Czech Republic, and hold the first graduation ceremony for students of the TWINNING double degree program, together with the Royal Agricultural University of Great Britain. This opens up a wide range of opportunities for practical internships, grants, and partnerships that enhance the university’s professionalism and prestige.
The results of the year are a joint achievement of teachers, students, administrative staff and university partners. At the same time, it is the wise and responsible leadership that allows the entire team to work in a coordinated and effective manner. We sincerely thank the Rector of SNAU, Ihor Mykolayovych, for his dedication, endurance and ability to take responsibility in every process of the university’s development.
