SNAU and the Netherlands: Joint Work for the Future of Ukrainian Animal Husbandry

Published: September 29, 2025

Sumy National Agrarian University has joined an important initiative aimed at raising animal welfare standards and adapting Ukraine’s dairy sector to European Union regulations.

Through partnership with the Netherlands, particularly within the framework of the project Baseline Study on Animal Welfare in Ukraine’s Dairy Industry (PST25UA05), university representatives are actively engaged in developing and updating educational programs and training courses for both students and practitioners.

Meetings held between the Ukrainian Association of Milk Producers and agricultural universities, including SNAU, are focused on updating curricula by adding modules that address animal welfare standards, new production methods and veterinary care. These steps are designed to prepare specialists capable of working in line with European standards.

SNAU representatives have confirmed their readiness for change: introducing modules on animal welfare, participating in Train-the-Trainer programs with Dutch partners and actively incorporating practical training and modern technologies. This enables our students and lecturers to remain at the forefront of developments in animal husbandry and the dairy industry.

International cooperation of this level is strategically important for SNAU: it not only improves the quality of education and research but also supports Ukraine’s integration into the European educational and agricultural space, strengthens export potential, and enhances the university’s capacity to train highly qualified professionals who can meet modern challenges.
