Visiting meeting of the Council of the North-Eastern Scientific Centre of the NAS of Ukraine and the MES of Ukraine based on SNAU

An off-site meeting of the Council of the North-Eastern Scientific Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine was held at Sumy National Agrarian University – an event of a high state and scientific level, which brought together leading representatives of the academic community, government bodies and higher education institutions.

The topic of the meeting – “The work of scientific institutions and higher education institutions of Slobozhanshchyna in modern conditions: state and prospects (using the example of Sumy region)” – was focused on the key challenges and strategic opportunities for the development of science and education under martial law. The participants discussed the issues of preserving and increasing scientific potential, integrating education, science and innovation, as well as the role of regional scientific centres in the formation of a sustainable and competitive state.

The following took part in the off-site meeting:

  • Denys Kurbatov – Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine;
  • Volodymyr Semynozhenko — Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the North-Eastern Scientific Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
  • Ihor Kovalenko— Rector of Sumy National Agrarian University;
  • Vasyl Karpusha — Rector of Sumy State University, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Scientific Research Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Head of the Sumy Branch of the Scientific Research Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
  • Svyatoslav Balyuk — Acting Director of the National Centre “Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry named after O. N. Sokolovsky”, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
  • Viktor Tkach — Director of the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Forestry and Agroforestry named after G. M. Vysotsky, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
  • Anatolii Hrytsenko— Director of the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Environmental Problems;
  • Valentyn Chebanov — First Deputy General Director for Scientific Work of the Scientific and Technological Complex “Institute of Single Crystals” of the NAS of Ukraine, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the PSNC of the NAS of Ukraine and the MES of Ukraine, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine;
  • Oleksandr Lebed — Director of the Institute of Applied Physics of the NAS of Ukraine;
    Svitlana Lypova — Deputy Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the activities of Sumy National Agrarian University as an example of a modern university that demonstrates a systematic approach to development in conditions of crisis challenges. The Rector of SNAU Ihor Kovalenko presented the key areas of the university’s activity, in particular in the field of energy independence, the implementation of dual education, the development of applied scientific research and the strengthening of the scientific and research component of the educational process.

It was emphasized that the modern material and technical base, updated laboratory infrastructure, active cooperation with business, scientific institutions and partners allow SNAU to remain competitive and effective even in difficult wartime conditions. Within the framework of the field meeting, the participants also got acquainted with the university’s infrastructure, which clearly demonstrated its scientific potential and readiness to implement innovative and interdisciplinary projects.

Summing up the work of the meeting, the participants noted the importance of consolidating the efforts of science, education and the state to ensure sustainable development of the region and the country as a whole. Sumy National Agrarian University remains an open platform for professional dialogue, innovation and partnership, confidently shaping the prospects for the development of science and education in Slobozhanshchyna.
