A team of scientists from Sumy National Agrarian University took part in the international project ‘AgriSci-UA Platform: Strengthening Research Capacity and Deepening Cooperation between Ukrainian Universities in the Field of Agricultural Sciences,’ implemented in partnership with the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU). As part of the project, a series of competitions were held to support scientific research and develop international academic cooperation.
The AgriSci-UA platform aims to strengthen the research capacity of Ukrainian higher education institutions in the field of agricultural sciences, support interdisciplinary scientific initiatives, and develop sustainable partnerships between Ukrainian and European universities. The project competitive programmes provide funding for research teams and public initiatives that have scientific and practical value for Ukraine post-war recovery and sustainable development.
According to the results of the grant competition for multidisciplinary research teams, the team from Sumy National Agrarian University led by Andriy Melnyk, acting head of the Department of Horticulture and Forestry, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, won. The team’s project is entitled ‘Post-war monitoring of urbanised ecosystems and phytoremediation in the north-eastern forest-steppe zone of Ukraine’ and aims to study the state of the environment and implement restorative environmental practices.
In addition, based on the results of the initiative ‘Grants for the Development of Small Community Projects,’ which aims to empower small communities in Ukraine, the winner of this yea grant programme was Natalia Yaroshenko, PhD, senior lecturer at the Department of Ecology and Botany at Sumy National Agrarian University.
