Researchers from SNAU have contributed to the development of a regional climate strategy

Published: April 14, 2026

On March 31, 2026, representatives of Sumy National Agrarian University (SNAU) participated in a working meeting dedicated to developing a regional strategy for climate change adaptation in the Sumy region as part of the EU4ClimateResilience project.

In accordance with Order No. 602-OD of the Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration – Regional Military Administration, the following university researchers were included in the working group:

  • Inna Zubtsova — Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Ecology and Botany;
  • Roman Yaroshchuk — Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology and Botany, Head of the Research Laboratory for Agroforestry and Agro-Landscape Restoration;
  • Svitlana Yaroshchuk — Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Plant Breeding and Seed Production, Senior Research Fellow.

During the meeting, participants identified the goals, key objectives, and priorities for future work. The main focus was on transitioning from the identification of climate risks to the practical planning of adaptation measures at the regional level.

Key areas of work include assessing climate risks and territorial vulnerabilities, identifying priority adaptation goals and measures, and developing mechanisms for implementing and financing adaptation solutions through the creation of medium-term (3–5 years) and long-term (through 2040) plans.

The involvement of SNAU researchers in this work ensures the development of scientifically sound approaches to the region’s adaptation to current climate challenges and strengthens the university’s role in shaping strategic decisions at the regional level.
