On April 15, Sumy National Agrarian University hosted an ecological brainstorming session “Chernobyl: 40 Years of Lessons,” dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, an event that became a tragic symbol of man-made danger and at the same time a powerful lesson for all of humanity.

Viktoriia Zaiarna, head of the department for organizing educational work with students at SNAU, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. She emphasized the relevance of holding such events, the importance of forming environmental awareness and consolidating the university community around the values of sustainable development.

The event was moderated by Anzhelika Shevel, candidate of philosophical sciences, associate professor at the Department of Justice and Philosophy. In her speech, she emphasized the profound importance of understanding the Chernobyl tragedy:

“Chernobyl is not only a tragedy of the past, but also a constant reminder of humanity’s responsibility for the future of the planet. It is the level of our consciousness today that determines the security of tomorrow.”

The event brought together teams of students and university teachers. The teams “Future Associate Professors” and “Biocenosis” faced off in a fierce intellectual duel. The participants demonstrated a high level of training, erudition, critical thinking, and teamwork. The competition was held in a dynamic and at the same time friendly atmosphere, full of intellectual excitement and sincere interest in environmental topics.

According to the results of the game, the team of teachers “Biocenosis” won, scoring 24 points. The team of students “Future Associate Professors” received 16 points, having shown themselves worthily at all stages of the competition. The best among the fans was Bohdan Petukhov, a graduate of the Faculty of Agrotechnology and Environmental Management, who actively supported the participants and created a positive atmosphere of the event.

At the end of the event, the participants were congratulated by the rector of SNAU Ihor Kovalenko, who emphasized the importance of sustainable development, the formation of an environmentally responsible society and the importance of such initiatives for uniting the university community. All participants were awarded certificates for active participation, professionalism and contribution to the popularization of environmental values.

Holding such events contributes to the formation of environmental awareness among young people, the development of a culture of responsible attitude to the environment and a deeper understanding of the lessons of Chernobyl as an important component of the modern worldview.
