On the third Saturday of May, Ukraine celebrates Science Day. This year, the celebrations for the scientific community of Sumy region were held at the Sumy National Agrarian University. In modern conditions, the role of science has outgrown the boundaries of laboratories: today it is a guarantor of national security, innovations for reconstruction, and intellectual capital, thanks to which the world knows and respects Ukrainians. With a minute of mourning, those present honored the memory of the defenders, whose courage allows scientists to work, develop, and implement plans.
Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Sumy Regional State Administration, Viktoriia Hrobova, addressed the participants of the event with a welcoming speech. She emphasized the powerful potential of the region’s researchers and expressed gratitude to the rector of SNAU, Ihor Kovalenko, for the development of a modern scientific infrastructure that allows the scientific community of Sumy region to remain active even in wartime.
The high status of SNAU as a leading scientific and educational center is, first of all, the merit of the university’s powerful team of scientists. It is thanks to their professionalism that the institution successfully passed the state certification, receiving the highest category “A” in the agrarian and veterinary direction, category “B” in social and technological sciences, and category “B” in biomedical sciences. The daily work of our researchers allowed the university to take second place among agricultural HEIs of Ukraine according to Scopus and Scimago indicators, confirming the high international visibility of SNAU’s scientific developments.
Today, the university’s intellectual resource is implemented in 15 national and about 20 international projects in partnership with colleagues from the UK, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and other countries of the world. In particular, SNAU has become a key intellectual hub for monitoring and restoring land resources damaged by the war. The university’s status as an expert center allows not only to record the negative impact on the ecosystem, but also to offer specific solutions for the revival of Ukrainian black soils. The combination of the scientific experience of our specialists with modern laboratory equipment allows us to implement projects for the reclamation and return of affected lands to economic circulation, strengthening the position of the agricultural sector as a key industry of the country
The central event of the event was the awarding of scientists from Sumy National Agrarian University, whose achievements have become the pride of the region. For a significant personal contribution to the development of domestic science, the Head of the Department of Geodesy and Land Management, Nataliia Kapinos, was awarded the Honorary Certificate of the Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration. The Honorary Certificate of the Head of the Sumy Regional Council for conscientious work and significant achievements in scientific activity was received by Associate Professor of the Department of Feed Technology and Animal Feeding, Oleksandr Mykhalko.
Considerable attention was paid to the results of the regional competition of scientific projects of young scientists aimed at solving the problems of the reconstruction of the Sumy region. The high level of developments was confirmed by the laureates from our university: Eduard Kinshakov, assistant professor of the Department of Cybernetics and Informatics (project on IT diagnostics of infectious diseases); Viktoriia Musiienko, associate professor of the Department of Marketing and Logistics (project on the restoration of small businesses in the conditions of the war economy); Oleksandr Novytskyi, senior lecturer of the Department of Construction and Operation of Buildings (project on energy-efficient foundations in difficult conditions).
The winner of the competition by the sum of points was the head of the Department of Transport Technologies of SNAU Oleksandr Savoiskyi with the project of an energy-efficient electro-technological complex for drying food products. Commenting on the importance of youth initiatives, he noted:
“There is no room for hesitation in science. Today, every result, every innovation works for our independence. By directing our potential to solve energy efficiency problems, we are not just creating technologies – we are shaping the future of Sumy region. Our principle is simple: to be the first where the country needs it most.”
The event once again proved that Sumy National Agrarian University is not only a center of knowledge, but also a strategic partner of the state in matters of innovative development. By uniting the efforts of scientists, we create the basis for our future victory and confidently demonstrate to the world: Ukrainian science is invincible, progressive and productive.
