On June 8, 2026, the Sumy National Agrarian University held a ceremonial opening of a memorial plaque to Volodymyr Maksymovych Kokhanovskyi, one of the founders of the university, candidate of agricultural sciences, associate professor of the department of horticulture and forestry, a man who left a significant mark in the history of SNAU.
On this day, the university community gathered near the Faculty of Agrotechnology and Environmental Management to pay tribute and preserve the bright memory of Volodymyr Maksymovych Kokhanovskyi, a teacher, scientist, mentor and one of those who shaped the modern Sumy National Agrarian University with his work.
Volodymyr Kokhanovskyi was not only a talented scientist and teacher, but also a true creator of the unique natural space of SNAU. It was his ideas and many years of work that became the basis for the landscaping of the university territory, the creation of an arboretum and the formation of a modern campus landscape, which today is one of the hallmarks of the city of Sumy.
For decades, he has educated more than one generation of specialists in the field of horticulture and forestry, passing on to students not only knowledge, but also a love of nature, a responsible attitude to the environment and dedication to the profession. For his significant contribution to the development of higher education and science, Volodymyr Maksymovych was awarded an honorary scholarship of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The opening of the memorial plaque became a symbol of the university community’s gratitude to a person who dedicated a significant part of his life to SNAU and left behind not only a scientific heritage, but also a living green space that continues to inspire students, teachers and guests of the university.
The bright memory of Volodymyr Maksymovych Kokhanovskyi will live on in his scientific works, in the hundreds of specialists he trained, in the arboretum and in every corner of the university, to the creation of which he contributed his knowledge, talent and love for his native business.
