SNAU and the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”: a partnership that trains a new generation of foresters

Published: June 29, 2026

Sumy National Agrarian University has been collaborating with the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” for many years, aligning the training of future specialists with the needs of the forestry sector. This partnership encompasses practical training for students, professional development for the enterprise’s employees, and joint efforts to train personnel for one of the region’s most important economic sectors.

For the Sumy region, where forestry plays a vital ecological, economic, and social role, this collaboration is particularly valuable. Thanks to the university’s close ties with employers, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience directly in the field, familiarize themselves with the real challenges of the profession, and decide on their future place of employment while still in school.

Cooperation is also taking place in the opposite direction. Employees of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” study at SNAU, improve their qualifications, and earn new academic degrees while balancing their professional work with their studies. For many, this is an opportunity for professional growth, and for the university, it allows for maintaining a constant connection with industry practices and the needs of the modern forestry sector.

Among SNAU’s graduates are many specialists who now work in the structural units of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine,” and current students are already completing their field internships alongside experienced mentors. This continuity between generations is one of the best examples of how university education is integrated with real-world practice.

One area of long-standing cooperation is the company’s provision of firewood to meet the university’s internal needs. This support is particularly important for SNAU as a border higher education institution and serves as further evidence of the reliable partnership between the university and the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine.” According to Mykola Kovalenko, Vice Rector for Infrastructure Development and Resource Provision, cooperation between the parties has always been smooth: all operational issues are promptly resolved on the basis of mutual respect, trust, and professionalism. It is precisely this kind of cooperation that helps the university create the necessary conditions for high-quality education, practical training of future specialists, and stable operations in the challenging conditions of the border region.

Under current circumstances, the cooperation between Sumy National Agrarian University and the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” has taken on even greater significance. It serves as an example of a responsible partnership that promotes the development of education, strengthens the human resources of the forestry sector, and creates new opportunities for young professionals who see their future in forestry.
