Published: September 5, 2022

From the 2nd of August to the 26th of August, a PhD student of the Department of Agricultural Technologies and Natural Resource Management of Sumy National Agrarian University Oksana Datsko participated in a summer school for learning German language held at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU), which is located in Munich (Germany).

The BAYHOST Foundation made it possible to receive a grant on the condition that the recipient is a student of higher education and has previously studied German language. The school was funded by BAYHOST (Bavarian Academic Centre of Central, Eastern and South-eastern Europe) for students from Ukraine and DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) for students from other European countries.

The scholarship covered living expenses, language learning and pocket expenses. In total, there were 173 students from 53 countries. In order to learn German effectively, students didn’t have only to attend classes, but also they had to develop a project based on interviews with German-speaking respondents. The school program also included visits to the cultural heritage of Bavaria, in particular Neuschwanstein Castle and the Dachau concentration camp, which was especially difficult for Ukrainian students in modern conditions.

Summer language school is a great opportunity for self-improvement and new acquaintances. In addition, it is also an opportunity to visit new architectural monuments.

German is the third most popular language in the world for learning and is quite widespread in scientific circles.
