Volodymyr Ladyka

Advisor to the Rector

Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine.

Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, a leading specialist in the field of genetics and breeding of farm animals. He began his career as a chief livestock expert, later becoming a professor, vice-rector, and from 2011 to 2024, he headed SNAU.

Author of over 150 scientific papers, with 2 doctoral and 7 candidate dissertations defended under his supervision. Organizer of international cooperation: SNAU has over 150 agreements with partners from 25 countries and is part of global educational networks. Thanks to his efforts, the university became a leader in agricultural science according to the Scopus ranking and fully transitioned away from natural gas. He is fluent in German and English, which enables the organization of international internships, scientific research, and collaboration with China.

Laureate of numerous awards, including the Order of Merit, the title of “Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine,” and the highest award of Henan Province – the Yellow River Award. Active on social media and open to communication.

General information

Born on August 23, 1962, in the village of Pidlypne, Konotop District, Sumy Region.

Education: In 1984, he graduated with honors from the Sumy Branch of the Kharkiv Agricultural Institute named after I.V. Dokuchaev with a specialty in “Zootechnics.”

Employment:

1984–1987 – Chief livestock expert of the Lenin collective farm, Krolevets District, Sumy Region;

1987–1989 – Postgraduate student at the Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A. Timiryazev;

1990–1996 – Associate Professor at the Sumy Agricultural Institute;

1996–2002 – Vice-Rector for External Affairs of the Sumy National Agrarian University, Head of the Department of Special Zootechnics;

1999–2000 – Acting Dean of the Zootechnical Faculty on a voluntary basis;

2002–2003 – First Vice-Rector of Sumy NAU;

2003–2005 – Director of the Sumy State Breeding Center;

2005–2011 – Rector of the Sumy National Agrarian University;

January–April 2011 – Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine;

May–July 2011 – Vice President of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine;

July–December 2011 – Acting Rector of the Sumy National Agrarian University;

2011–2024 – Rector of the Sumy National Agrarian University, Professor of the Department of Special Zootechnics.

Since 2024 – Advisor to the Rector of SNAU.

Volodymyr Ivanovych Ladyka is a leading scientist in the field of genetics and breeding of agricultural animals in Ukraine.

He has authored over 150 scientific publications. Under his supervision, 2 doctoral and 7 candidate dissertations have been defended. He is the initiator of the implementation of distance and dual education at the university. The “Agro-Internship” project was introduced in Ukraine for the first time. He is an expert-advisor on the breeding and maintenance of farm animals and management in the livestock sector of Ukraine.

Currently, the university has signed more than 150 international cooperation agreements with foreign partners from more than 25 countries. SNAU is an official partner of the Magna Charta Universitatum, the international university network of the Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean regions (BSEMAN), the Visegrad University Association, and the International Partner Network for Agrarian Management.

Under his leadership, the university has taken a leading position among agricultural educational institutions in the Scopus ranking. A scientifically based energy efficiency system was implemented, allowing the university to completely abandon the use of natural gas.

Fluent in German and English, Volodymyr Ivanovych organizes international internships for students, postgraduates, and university staff, educates students from 29 countries, conducts relevant scientific research, and exchanges advanced experience internationally. He leads several international grant projects supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the United Nations Development Programme.

On his personal initiative, partnership relations were developed between the city of Sumy and cities of the People’s Republic of China. In 2019, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Sumy City Council (Ukraine) and the Municipal People’s Government of the city of Xinxiang, Henan Province (PRC), as well as a Memorandum of Intent regarding friendly exchanges and cooperation, the establishment of sister city relations, and an agreement between SNAU, the Institute of Applied Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the European Agrophysical Institute of Xinxiang on the creation of a high-tech center in agriculture. Currently, about 179 students and postgraduates from the People’s Republic of China are studying at the Sumy National Agrarian University, including more than 80 students from Henan Province. In 2020, Volodymyr Ladyka was awarded the highest distinction of Henan Province – the “Yellow River Award.”
