Safe Internet day at SNAU: how to protect yourself online

Published: February 24, 2026

Sumy National Agrarian University is joining Safe Internet Day and supporting an information campaign aimed at improving digital literacy and online safety for students, teachers and university staff.

Most Ukrainian teenagers and more than two-thirds of adults have already had at least one incident related to data security. These are the results of a 2025 study on digital and AI literacy.

The figures also reveal an important difference: people with advanced digital skills use several protection methods at once — complex unique passwords, two-factor authentication, source and message verification. The more advanced the skills, the more levels of protection.

That is why Safe Internet Day, an initiative launched by the European Union and supported in more than 160 countries around the world, focuses not only on discussing risks but also on shaping a culture of safe online behaviour. Ukraine is joining this initiative by providing practical tools for citizens.

“23% of Ukrainians have already encountered cyberattacks using artificial intelligence technologies, and 35% of adults reported receiving incorrect or fictitious responses from such systems. This indicates that digital risks are becoming more complex faster than protective habits are being formed.

That is why we are synchronising national approaches with European principles — from preventive education to practical skills training. At Diia. Osvita, users can not only learn about the risks, but also practise safe behaviour algorithms in a safe environment — in simulators and tests — without any real threat to their data or funds,” says Yaroslava DYO, Head of the Expert Group of the Directorate for Digital Skills Development and Digitalisation of Education at the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

For Safer Internet Day, the Diia. Osvita platform presented a special section: osvita.diia.gov.ua/safer-internet

It contains practical tools that can be used immediately:

  • educational series on personal cyber hygiene and phishing protection;simulators of online fraud
  • situations with recommendations for children and parents;
  • tests to check your own digital habits.

The key activation for Safe Internet Day is the interactive quest ‘Hiena Hyhiena and MereZHakh’. Its heroes are the characters from the nationwide cyber hyhiena campaign of November-December 2025 — Hiena Hihiena and Kibermylo. In two months, the campaign reached over 4.1 million users.

The quest simulates 14 typical online situations — from fake job offers to deepfake requests for help — so that users can safely practise the correct algorithm of actions.

After completing the quest, participants receive personalised results and a certificate. Those who score more than 70 out of a possible 140 points are automatically entered into a raffle for branded Dіia. Osvita merchandise. The campaign runs from 10 February to 10 March.

In a digital state, online security is a basic skill.

You can check your level of protection and practise algorithms today at Diia.Osvita.

The materials for Safer Internet Day are based on the Diia. Osvita cyber higiena campaign. The campaign was implemented by ISD Group with the support of the US Project ‘Cybersecurity of Ukraine’s Critical Infrastructure’. The materials for Safer Internet Day do not necessarily reflect the views of the US Government.
