Sumy National Agrarian University has already become a meeting place for representatives of education, business and government. Traditionally, our higher education institution discusses issues of cooperation, new challenges, shares practical experience and theoretical knowledge.
On May 5, 2023, a seminar-meeting “Dairy Cattle Breeding in Ukraine. Challenges and opportunities” was held at SNAU. The representatives of the Department of agro-industrial development of the Sumy regional state administration, the Institute of Agriculture of the north-east of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Association of livestock breeders and poultry breeders of Sumy region and the Sumy Breeding Centre took an active part in the meeting. Volodymyr ARTIUKH, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, and Taras SAVCHENKO, first deputy head of Sumy RMA, were present at the meeting. Together with business representatives they discussed aspects of legislative issues and ways of further cooperation. Volodymyr ARTIUKH commented: “Issues of animal husbandry have become challenges for us. Today is an important day for us, for representatives of the authorities, to hear the opinion of theorists and entrepreneurs in order to make the right legislative decisions that would be successful for both the state and entrepreneurs.”
Volodymyr LADYKA, Chairman of the Council of the Association of Livestock Breeders and Poultry Breeders of Sumy region, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Rector of Sumy NAU, during his report “Management of breeding work in market conditions” noted: “I think that the issue of breeding work is a challenge for all of us today. What happened? The system of breeding and breeding work in the country is almost broken. We must improve the situation by applying our theoretical knowledge and practical skills.”
In addition, within the framework of the seminar-meeting, the dean of the Faculty of Biology and Technology of SNAU Viktoriia VECHORKA reported about “Breeding accounting as the first stage in breeding program for the herd”, the head of the laboratory of animal husbandry and fodder production of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yurii SKLIARENKO spoke about “Formation of herds for beta and kappa casein is the way to high profitability”, associate professor of the Faculty of Biology and Technology Yuliia Pavlenko reported about the formation of the dairy type in dairy and combined breeds.
The participants could learn more about genetic potential of the Sumy Breeding Centre.
