Published: June 20, 2023

Ukraine is a country of fertile soils and hardworking people who cultivate them, feeding the whole world. The celebration of the Farmer’s Day after the start of the full-scale invasion is special, because with the problem of field mines and constant shelling of the border zones, which became especially acute for Sumy Oblast, farmers became not just workers working on the land, but also heroes of our time.

The Farmer’s Day is characteristic for the staff of Sumy NAU, because our university has an agrarian direction of activity. Representatives of the educational institution represented by the Rector Volodymyr Ladyka and Vice-Rector of academic and educational work Ihor Kovalenko joined the celebration at the city level.

The First Deputy Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration, Taras Savchenko, congratulated the representatives of Sumy Region farms on the holiday on behalf of the authorities. He emphasized the challenges of land cultivation during military operations, ways to solve these problems, and thanked those present for their titanic work.

In his welcoming speech, the Head of the Sumy Regional Council, Viktor Fedorchenko, compared the professions of a builder and a farmer, as he himself is the founder of a construction company.

Volodymyr Ladyka, Rector of Sumy National Agrarian University, spoke about his own experience in the farming industry and aspects of providing education to future farmers. In addition, the academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine presented gratitude for the development of the livestock industry and the preservation of the national heritage of brown dairy cattle to Andrii Zakharov, the Head of the agricultural enterprise “Avers International”.

Ihor Kovalenko greeted the Head of the “Farm Shaidenko T.O.” (Suprunivka village, Sumy district) Tetiana Shaidenko for many years of cooperation in practical training of collectors and creation of proper conditions for conducting field experiments.

Congratulations to everybody on Farmer’s Day! We wish you bountiful harvests and profits. Golden wheat, incense in the garden and large stocks in the barns!
