The researchers of Sumy National Agrarian University have been working for several years on the selection of Ukrainian dairy brown and Lebedyn breeds of cows. This species is extremely valuable, which is determined by several criteria: duration (plus one and a half lactations), selection plasticity (milk, milk-meat, meat), proper milk yield, or +8% cheese yield.
Two years ago the scientists of SNAU in cooperation with geneticists of the O. Bohomolets Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences, the scientists of the Institute of Agriculture of the North East of the National Academy of Sciences proved a high degree of saturation of the Brown breed cattle population with A2A2 genotypes for beta-casein. It makes possible to use milk for the production of hypoallergenic dairy products, which are already produced in Sumy region.
Breeding of such species is an extremely promising and economically profitable direction. However, now there is not enough livestock.
To solve the problems of the decrease in the number of livestock, scientists of the Sumy National Agrarian University joined forces with the O. Bohomolets Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Animal Breeding and Genetics named after M. Zubets of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Agriculture of the North East of the National Academy of Sciences. The institutions conduct research work together.

The Association’s cooperation with German researchers became an important aspect of the work. It makes it possible to use the unique genetic material of bulls of the original German brown breed.
