The Sumy National Agrarian University celebrated the 212th anniversary of the birth of Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko, an outstanding Ukrainian writer, artist and the creator of a significant part of Ukraine’s national cultural heritage. The figure of the “Kobzar” is a symbol of the spiritual strength of the Ukrainian people, and his life path is an example of resilience, talent and a strong desire for freedom.
To commemorate this date, an exhibition of various editions of “Kobzar” was opened in the art space of the SNAU library. The exhibition allowed visitors to explore the history of the publication of the main book of Ukrainian literature and to see its different interpretations across various historical periods.
A thematic event consisting of two parts was also held. In the first part, the library staff together with the audience recalled the life and creative path of the artist, the key events of his biography, as well as interesting facts that help to gain a deeper understanding of Shevchenko and the scale of his cultural influence.
In the second part of the event, representatives of the student self-government organized an interactive quiz for the guests titled “DNA of Freedom: From the Kobzar to Us.” During the quiz, participants tested their knowledge of Shevchenko’s life and works. The tasks included different formats — from “true or myth” questions to literary quizzes and activities where participants had to recognize works by fragments or images.
For their active participation in the quiz, all participants received pleasant gifts — branded university products.
Such events are an important part of the cultural life of the university community. Honouring the figure of Taras Shevchenko is not only a tribute to the memory of the great artist, but also a reminder of the importance of national culture, history, and spiritual values that shape and strengthen Ukrainian identity.
