Sumy National Agrarian University not only trains a new generation of specialists, but also creates an inspiring atmosphere. On the eve of the winter holidays, the Department of Horticulture and Forestry of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and Environmental Management held a creative master class on making winter floral arrangements. The event brought students and teachers together around a common goal — to create their own pre-New Year miracle.
The master class took place in a live communication format, which is particularly important now. At a time when the country is fighting for freedom and education is often shifting to a remote format, the opportunity to be together takes on new meaning. That is why the event had an important mission — to support the moral and psychological state of students and staff. Creating winter compositions together allows you to relieve tension, feel the team spirit and warmth of the university community, experience positive emotions, and restore faith in the joy of simple moments. This is how a space of trust and mutual support is created.
Participants learned techniques for creating winter floral decorations, rules for working with natural materials, colour schemes, and trends in modern green design. Under the guidance of department professor Tetiana Melnyk, each participant created their own unique composition, combining tradition, individual style, and the natural symbolism of winter plants.
Representatives of the department emphasized:
“At a time when war is raging and education is often shifting to an online format, the opportunity to gather together in a classroom takes on special significance. Creative collaboration provides a sense of support, unity, and warmth, which is so lacking right now. This is how we preserve traditions, support each other, and create pre-New Year’s magic despite all the challenges of today.”
SNAU continues to develop students’ practical skills and shape a modern vision of natural space. Such initiatives are not just pre-holiday events, but an important part of professional development, allowing students to work with living material, develop aesthetic taste, and creative thinking.
The Department of Landscape Design and Forestry expresses its sincere gratitude to all participants for
their activity, positive emotions, and interest in the creative process. May the compositions created
bring an atmosphere of comfort, faith, and hope to your homes. SNAU is a place where new traditions
are born.
