The World Environment Day, which also includes the Day of the Ecologist, is a date when the representatives of environmental protection are thanked not only for the preservation of certain species of plants and animals, valuable natural complexes in limited territories, but also for the creation of a healthy natural environment for humans, preservation and increasing biological and landscape diversity, improving the state of the environment.
The holiday is traditionally celebrated on June 5. This year, Sumy National Agrarian University became the venue for the solemn meeting of representatives of nature protection, authorities and higher educational institutions.
The Head of the Sumy Regional Council, Viktor Fedorchenko, presented certificates of honour and emphasized that ecologists protect the residents of the region and the country with their work.
Representatives of the nature protection industry were honoured for their high professionalism, many years of work and an active environmental protection position, participation in the formation of regional environmental policy. Among the best is the head of the Department of “Ecology and Botany” of Sumy National Agrarian University Victoriia Skliar. She was awarded with a certificate of honour of Sumy Regional State Administration.
The Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities of SNAU Yurii Danko congratulated those present on the World Environment Day, presented certificates to teachers and students who are actively engaged in educational and environmental protection activities. Today, about 4,000 pupils of extracurricular educational institutions are actively involved in excursion, educational, project and practical nature conservation activities.
