Folk Dance Ensemble “Vesna”

The Folk Dance Ensemble “Vesna” was established in 1986. The ensemble consists of students and postgraduate students of Sumy National Agrarian University. For over 30 years, it has been led by its permanent director, Olha Hetmanenko.

In December 1998, the ensemble was awarded the honorary title of “People’s Artistic Collective”. In 2016, the group successfully confirmed this prestigious title for the third time.

The “Vesna” Folk Dance Ensemble continuously works on improving dance technique and performance artistry. The ensemble is a frequent participant and winner of many city, regional, national, and international festivals, including the “P. Virsky Folk Choreography Festival-Competition”, “Sumy Stars”, “Student Spring”, “Sofiivka Stars”, “Leap to the Stars”, “Dance Marathon”, and “Slobozhanska Autumn”.

Audiences in Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria have repeatedly applauded the performances of “Vesna”.

The ensemble’s members are students and postgraduates from various faculties of the university who are enthusiasts and admirers of folk choreography. Every year, the group welcomes new participants. One of the main focuses of the ensemble is the revival of the folk dance traditions of Slobozhanshchyna.

The “Vesna” Folk Dance Ensemble holds an active patriotic and civic position, consistently promotes folk choreography, fosters the cultural development of young people, and prioritizes native Ukrainian dance in its creative work. The main thing that unites the participants of the ensemble is their love for the art of folk dance, which they joyfully share with their audiences!
