Address from the Rector

Greetings, dear friends!

I am the Rector of Sumy National Agrarian University, Ihor Kovalenko. Thirty years ago, I joined the SNAU family as a student. I completed my bachelor’s, master’s, and postgraduate studies here. I earned the academic title of professor and the degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences.

Over these years, I’ve come to understand one essential thing – a university must constantly strive to develop and improve every aspect of its educational and scientific processes. In almost half a century of its existence, our university has evolved from the Sumy branch of the Kharkiv Agricultural Institute named after V.V. Dokuchaiev into a powerful educational and scientific complex of national importance. And today, we need even greater efforts to remain a leading institution in a complex border region.

Our key priorities include:

Ensuring safety on campus. The university already has 8 certified basic shelters with a total capacity of nearly 2,000 people. In 2023, a major renovation was completed in one of them, increasing its capacity. In 2024, three modern classrooms were equipped for conducting the national multi-subject test, unified entrance exams, and the unified professional entrance test.

Searching for and attracting extrabudgetary and grant funding, as well as partnerships with businesses, to improve the quality of education, student living conditions, and infrastructure. Students can participate in various projects and grants from Erasmus+, DAAD, and other international partners.

Establishing a memorial gallery to honor the university’s graduates who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence.

Modernizing technical infrastructure and online platforms.

This is only a small part of the steps we are working toward. The university is evolving, adapting to current realities, and implementing a modern, safe, and effective approach to training professionals who contribute to the development of the agricultural sector and society as a whole.

Sincerely,
Ihor Kovalenko
