Objectives and purpose of the scientific laboratory

The purpose of the Problem Research Laboratory “Agroforestry and Restoration of Agricultural Landscapes” is to provide scientific substantiation, develop, and implement innovative solutions in the fields of agroforestry, forest melioration, and restoration of resilient agricultural landscapes in the northeastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine, taking into account the consequences of military actions, climate change, land degradation, as well as the requirements of national and European legislation and policies.

Objectives of the Problem Research Laboratory

  1. To develop scientific and methodological foundations for the restoration and enhancement of the ecological resilience of agricultural landscapes through the implementation of modern agroforestry systems.
  2. To provide scientific justification for forest-reclamation measures on agricultural, degraded, eroded, waterlogged, contaminated, and war-disturbed lands.
  3. To develop models for the spatial optimization of protective forest plantations and green infrastructure in order to reduce erosion processes, climate risks, and other environmental threats.
  4. To assess the condition of soils, biodiversity, and ecosystem services in agroforestry systems, as well as to develop indicators for monitoring soil health and environmental quality.
  5. To adapt and implement remote sensing methods, geoinformation analysis, and digital mapping for the planning, support, and monitoring of agricultural landscape restoration measures.
  6. To prepare scientific recommendations for integrating agroforestry into post-war recovery programs, spatial planning, land management, climate adaptation, and soil protection policies.
  7. To strengthen educational, innovative, and advisory activities through the establishment of demonstration sites, training of specialists, and capacity building for farmers, communities, and higher education students.
  8. To promote cooperation among science, business, local communities, and public authorities for the practical implementation of agroforestry solutions in border and war-affected areas.
  9. To disseminate research results and participate in grant-funded, interdepartmental, and international projects, as well as in the preparation of analytical, methodological, and regulatory materials.
