Sumy National Agrarian University (SNAU) hosted large-scale regional events dedicated to the Day of Science, which is traditionally celebrated in Ukraine in the third decade of May. As one of the leading institutions of agrarian education and science, it was no coincidence that the university hosted this important holiday. After all, the university confidently holds a position in the TOP-50 of Ukrainian institutions of higher education in terms of all indicators of scientific and innovative activity.
On this day, hundreds of scientists of all ages gathered on the university grounds to take part in the festivities. Among the guests of honour were Volodymyr ARTYUKH, Head of the Regional Military Administration, Viktor FEDORCHENKO, Head of the Sumy Regional Council, Olena BOIKO, Deputy Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration, Viktoriia HROBOVA, Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Sumy Regional State Administration, as well as heads, researchers and academic staff of higher education and research institutions of the Sumy region.
The scientific achievements of the Sumy Territorial Branch of the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (MAS) were presented at numerous locations of the university. All attendees had the opportunity to learn about the achievements of the Academy’s students and their research papers. According to the Department of Education and Science of the Sumy Regional State Administration, this year talented Sumy region’s students have become active participants in about 50 competitions at the regional, national and international levels. 303 young scientists presented the results of their research at the second stage of the All-Ukrainian competition. Of these, 182 became winners and prize-winners.
Volodymyr LADYKA, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Sumy Region, invited his colleagues to an expanded meeting of the Council of Rectors and the Council of Young Scientists ‘Science of Sumy Region: Development Vectors under Martial Law’. This meeting became an effective platform for communication, exchange of experience and strengthening of ties between participants. Scientists discussed topical issues of science development in the region, especially under martial law, identified promising research areas and outlined strategies for further cooperation. During the event, regional officials presented awards and honours to the best scientists of Sumy region.
Representatives of Sumy National Agrarian University were also among the awardees. Rector Volodymyr LADYKA was awarded the Certificate of Honour of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ‘For Special Merit to the Ukrainian People’, and Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities Yurii DANKO was awarded the third degree award of the Sumy Regional Council ‘For Services to Sumy Region’. Margarita LYSHENKO, Volodymyr TROTZENKO, Oksana SHKROMADA, Mykola MYKHAILICHENKO got letters of appreciation from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Elina ZAKHARCHENKO was awarded a diploma from the Sumy Regional State Administration.
In general, the event confirmed the high level of scientific activity of Sumy National Agrarian University and its significant role in the development of science in Sumy region. Such events not only promote science among young people, but also emphasise the importance of scientific research for the future of Ukraine.
