Sumy National Agrarian University is celebrating its 49th anniversary—an occasion that brings together generations, experience, and an ambitious vision for the future. Nearly half a century ago, SNAU began its journey as a small educational institution, and today it is a modern, multidisciplinary scientific and educational center that is shaping a new standard of agricultural education in Ukraine and confidently integrating into the global educational and scientific community.
The past year has been one of the most challenging in the university’s history. The challenges of wartime, security threats, and the consequences of enemy shelling—all of this has become part of reality for the university community. Yet it was precisely under these conditions that SNAU demonstrated its true strength: unity, resilience, and the ability to act. The university did not halt the educational process, did not cease scientific activities, and did not lose its strategic course of development. On the contrary—it managed to adapt, grow stronger, and continue moving forward.
Today, SNAU firmly holds its position as one of the leaders in agricultural education in Ukraine—a fact confirmed by both national and international rankings as well as the significant achievements of the university community. The university consistently ranks among the country’s leading agricultural higher education institutions, steadily strengthening its reputation and leadership position.
One of the university’s key strengths is its close collaboration with industry and the implementation of dual education. SNAU actively partners with leading agricultural companies, allowing students to combine their studies with practical training directly in the field. This approach not only provides a deep understanding of the profession but also trains specialists who gain real-world experience while still in school, becoming competitive in the job market and sought after by employers.
The university is steadily expanding its international cooperation, building a strong network of global academic ties and opening up new opportunities for students and faculty. A special role in this is played by SNAU’s academic ambassadors—the university’s representatives in the international educational and scientific community, who actively promote it in the global academic sphere. They serve as gateways to new partnerships, initiating joint research, educational projects, and academic exchanges. Thanks to their efforts, SNAU not only integrates into the global arena but also establishes its own recognizable presence within it. Participation in academic mobility programs, international internships, and collaboration with leading European institutions strengthen the university’s position and create an environment where knowledge, experience, and innovation know no borders.
Science remains a key component of the university’s development. SNAU researchers are engaged in studies in the fields of agricultural technologies, ecology, veterinary medicine, food technologies, and economics, aimed at addressing pressing challenges—from increasing the efficiency of agricultural production to ensuring food security and sustainable development. At the same time, the university is implementing modern educational approaches, updating its curricula, and actively utilizing digital technologies and interdisciplinary solutions.
The true value of SNAU lies in its people—students, faculty, and researchers—who demonstrate every day that the university is not just about education, but about responsibility, initiative, and the ability to change the country. An active student life, volunteer initiatives, participation in projects, and the development of the media environment shape a strong, conscious, and engaged youth.
University Rector Ihor Kovalenko emphasizes:
