Published: May 11, 2026

Representatives of Sumy National Agrarian University completed a four-week international internship at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW, Poland) within the framework of the International Visegrad Fund grant program.

The internship participants included Roman Yaroshchuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Botany and Head of the Problem-Oriented Research Laboratory “Agroforestry and Restoration of Agricultural Landscapes,” and Svitlana Yaroshchuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Breeding and Seed Production and Head of the Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Department.

The internship program became an important platform for professional communication, the exchange of scientific ideas, and the search for joint solutions to current environmental challenges. During their work with Polish colleagues, the participants discussed the impact of forest plantations on mitigating climate change effects, as well as the role of agroforestry methods in restoring territories damaged by anthropogenic factors and military actions.

Of particular value was the practical application of the acquired knowledge and research results in the implementation of interdisciplinary projects of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine:

“Scientific Substantiation and Development of Effective Technologies for the Remediation of Agricultural Soils Degraded as a Result of Anthropogenic Factors and Military Actions”; “Agroforestry Principles for the Restoration of Lands Damaged by Military Actions.”

The international internship contributed to strengthening scientific contacts, developing academic cooperation, and integrating SNAU research into the European scientific community.

The university representatives expressed their gratitude to the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) for the warm welcome, professional environment, and openness to cooperation, as well as to the International Visegrad Fund for supporting international academic initiatives aimed at uniting the scientific community and promoting joint efforts toward environmental restoration.

Sumy National Agrarian University will continue to actively develop international cooperation and implement modern scientific approaches in the fields of ecology, agroforestry, and sustainable development.
