On 11–12 May 2026, representatives of Sumy National Agrarian University — Viktoria ZAIARNA, Head of the Student Welfare Department, and Olga SEMENIUK, a clinical psychologist — took part in a two-day workshop entitled ‘Gender Mainstreaming in the Process of EU Accession: Agriculture and Rural Development’, organised by UNO Women in Ukraine.
The event served as a forum for discussing contemporary European approaches to shaping public policy in the fields of agriculture, rural development and ensuring equal opportunities for women and men in the workplace.
As part of the programme, discussions focused on integrating a gender perspective into the development of the agricultural sector, supporting farms, shaping inclusive policies, and ensuring equal access to education, resources, funding and professional development. Particular attention was paid to the role of higher education institutions in training specialists capable of working in accordance with European standards and implementing the principles of equality in their future professional practice.
The knowledge and practical experience gained during the workshop will be utilised in the university’s future work, in particular in the implementation of educational, awareness-raising and pastoral initiatives aimed at ensuring equal opportunities, the development of students and support for SNAU’s European development trajectory.
For Sumy National Agrarian University, participation in such events is a key component of its European integration process. SNAU systematically implements modern approaches to the organisation of the educational process, expands international cooperation and engages in professional dialogue on the creation of an inclusive educational environment and the development of human potential.
