Sumy National Agrarian University has received yet another significant endorsement of the high caliber of its academic and teaching tradition. Pursuant to Order No. 648-r of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated July 1, 2026, SNAU Professor Leontiy Mykhailovych Khmelnychyi has been awarded a lifetime scholarship from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for outstanding contributions to higher education.
The award of a lifetime scholarship from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is one of the highest state honors for scientific and pedagogical workers, granted for outstanding professional achievements and many years of service to the development of education and science.
The list of scholarship recipients includes academic and teaching staff whose long-standing contributions to the development of Ukrainian higher education, science, and the training of highly qualified specialists have received state recognition. Among them is Leontiy Mykhailovych Khmelnytskyi, a professor in the Department of Animal Genetics, Breeding, and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biology and Technology of Sumy National Agrarian University.
Leontiy Mykhailovych has devoted most of his professional life to the development of animal science, breeding, and genetics of farm animals. A Doctor of Agricultural Sciences and professor, he is one of Ukraine’s leading experts in cattle breeding and the author of numerous scientific papers, monographs, and methodological guides that have made a significant contribution to the development of modern animal husbandry. His scientific research focuses on evaluating animal conformation, improving breeding methods, conserving and effectively utilizing genetic resources, and realizing the genetic potential of dairy cattle breeds.
From 2006 to 2023, Leontiy Khmelnychyi headed the Department of Animal Breeding and Selection at Sumy National Agrarian University, and he currently serves as a professor in the Department of Animal Genetics, Breeding, and Biotechnology. Over the course of a decade of scientific and pedagogical work, he has trained a whole generation of young scientists, served as a mentor to numerous graduate students and doctoral candidates, actively developed the university’s scientific school, and promoted the integration of fundamental science with the needs of modern agricultural production. His professional standing is evidenced by his participation in specialized academic councils, editorial boards of scientific journals, and state expert bodies in the field of animal husbandry.
This decision recognizes the scientist’s many years of fruitful work, his significant contribution to the development of zootechnical science and animal breeding, the training of young scientists and specialists in the agricultural sector, as well as his active participation in shaping the modern Ukrainian system of higher education.
