On September 17, Ukraine celebrates Rescuer’s Day. This year, it is a special date for Sumy National Agrarian University: SNAU student Artem Prasok is among the winners of the All-Ukrainian “Rescuer Hero of the Year” campaign.
A student majoring in Marketing at the Faculty of Economics and Management, Artem demonstrated courage and compassion in March this year when, following a Russian strike in Sumy, he helped a 16-year-old boy who had sustained a severe facial injury. Artem provided first aid and stopped the bleeding. It was this act that led to the student being recognized at the national level.
On September 17, during the celebrations marking Rescuer’s Day, Artem received the “Rescuer Hero of the Year” award. The award was presented to him by Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Vyhivskyi and Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Andrii Danyk in the presence of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
For SNAU, this story is a reminder that genuine responsibility for another person’s life does not depend on profession or position. Artem is a student and a future marketing specialist, but he is also a person who, at a critical moment, knew that he could not simply walk past someone in need.
His actions are particularly significant for the Sumy region, where civilians are often placed in situations caused by the war in which help is needed immediately. Sometimes, only a few minutes separate an injured person from the possibility of saving their life — and it is someone’s readiness to act that can make the difference.

On this day, we thank the employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, medical professionals, bomb disposal experts, firefighters, volunteers, and all civilians who come to the aid of others in the most dangerous moments.
We also thank everyone who saves lives. And we thank our students, who through their actions demonstrate that humanity, courage, and responsibility, qualities that cannot be learned solely from textbooks.
