Sumy National Agrarian University has officially joined the ranks of Ukraine’s top ten higher education institutions that will train specialists in physical accessibility. The relevant professional development programme, developed by our university’s researchers in accordance with national standards, has been approved by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.
The Ministry’s high level of trust and the signed memorandum of cooperation cement SNAU status as an educational and innovative centre for training specialist staff. The university will train specialists capable of professionally assessing the accessibility of buildings, public spaces and infrastructure facilities. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a state certificate confirming their competence in the field of physical accessibility.
Ihor KOVALENKO, the Rector of the SNAU, emphasised the strategic importance of this initiative for the country’s post-war reconstruction:
“Today, accessibility is not merely a regulatory requirement, but the foundation of a new philosophy for Ukraine recovery. Our researchers and lecturers are ready to share their practical experience with architects and builders so that every community has access to qualified experts. We must ensure equal access to social infrastructure for all citizens, and our university’s role in this process is crucial for the Sumy region and the whole country.”
The 60-hour training programme combines an examination of the updated regulatory framework with practical case studies. Future professionals will learn how to carry out on-site inspections of facilities (hospitals, schools, administrative service centres, streets) and develop expert recommendations for their modernisation in line with inclusivity requirements.
The launch of the accessibility specialist training programme at SNAU is a direct response to the government’s current needs. These specialists will monitor the inclusiveness of public spaces, which is of critical importance for people with disabilities, parents with pushchairs, older people and those with temporary health issues.
The university is currently in the midst of active organisational preparations for the launch of the course. Keep an eye on our official website and social media channels for updates! We will be publishing detailed information shortly regarding registration deadlines and the process for forming the first study groups.
SNAU continues to work towards ensuring that Ukraine’s reconstruction is modern, inclusive and comfortable for every citizen. Let’s build a barrier-free country together!
