In February 2023, Sumy National Agrarian University became a participant in the project “Restoration of The Recreational Potential of Damaged Forests for Human Well-Being in V4 and Post-War Ukraine”, which is implemented with the financing of the International Vishehrad Fund.
The project brought together the scientists from five countries: Poland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. The organizers and participants aim to create a guide to best practices in managing damaged forests under climate change conditions and a detailed study of recreational management practices in forests affected by natural disasters: wind, fire, and war.
The first meeting within the framework of the project took place on 4-5th of April, 2023 at the Institute of Forest Sciences in the city of Warsaw. Sumy National Agrarian University was represented at the event by Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Head of the Scientific Laboratory “Forestry of the North-East of Ukraine”, Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Botany Roman Yaroshchuk and Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, senior researcher Svitlana Yaroshchuk.
The scientists had the opportunity to visit recreational facilities in Pomiechówek and Sand Forest District State Forests, which have been recovering 20 years after the hurricane and were left for natural succession.
