Vyshyvanka Day at SNAU: traditions that unite generations

Published: May 30, 2026

Every year, on the third Thursday of May, Ukraine and the rest of the world celebrate International Vyshyvanka Day — a festival that unites Ukrainians around their national traditions, cultural heritage and spiritual values.

On 21 May 2026, the staff and student community of Sumy National Agrarian University joined in the celebrations of this important day for the Ukrainian people, wearing embroidered shirts as a symbol of unity, resilience and love for their homeland.

The Ukrainian vyshyvanka is not merely a traditional item of clothing, but a unique symbol of the nation, embodying the history, culture, worldview and centuries-old traditions of the Ukrainian people. It symbolises the bond between generations, spiritual strength, national dignity and the distinct identity of Ukraine.

Today, the vyshyvanka is a symbol of unity among Ukrainians worldwide, a sign of support for national identity and faith in the country’s future. This celebration takes on particular significance in the face of modern challenges, when the preservation of culture, traditions and historical memory is a vital component of Ukrainian society’s resilience.

The staff of Sumy National Agrarian University warmly congratulate students, lecturers, staff and partners on International Vyshyvanka Day.

We wish you peace, prosperity, unity, unshakeable faith in Victory, and pride in your Ukrainian heritage. May the vyshyvanka always remain a symbol of the strength, freedom and spiritual wealth of the Ukrainian nation.
